The Vienna Arts Society presents the “Healing Wall”, a collaborative series of panels assembled from hundreds of 12” puzzle pieces. Each piece is an original creation made by troops on the mend at the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, and it makes a powerful statement.
2019 is the sixth year that members of the Vienna Arts Society have worked with staff and patients in the ward, arriving at the hospital armed with blank puzzle pieces and a variety of elements needed to paint and collage on them.
Most of the patients have little experience with creating art, and yet as they begin putting paint onto the surface, they discover their own “inner artist”. As a Vienna Arts Society volunteer noted: “These artists are so brave to put this work out there. It is a true honor to spend time with them.”
The public is invited to view the entire wall this summer at the Vienna Art Center in the Windover Building. A reception celebrating both the Healing Wall and “The Open Door”, a judged photography show, is Saturday, August 10 from 3 – 5 pm. Enjoy light refreshments as Juror Sandi Croan presents awards to winning photographers. The two exhibitions are on display through August 31. Free and open to the public.
