Art is something that has always been on my mind. My grandfather and his mother painted with oils, even though they were farmers in Western Massachusetts. My mom sketched.
I majored in Fine Arts while at Amherst College and have a BFA. I got married and remember the day I sold my oil paints and brushes at a tag sale with my new baby in a bassinette nearby.
Fast forward to Virginia – with five kids between 5 and 20. I started volunteering for GRACE art in the schools program when I learned the kids would only have art once a month and the art teacher didn’t have a classroom, just an art cart. I and another mother grew the program to over 100 parent volunteers. I designed projects and lectured each month, orienting the parents.
I started subbing in art classes at Hunters Woods magnet school. In 2005 I started taking classes at the Art League School in Alexandria. It’s been 12 years since then I have learned a lot.
I have taken classes with Mike Francis, Danni Dawson, Diane Tesler, Tim Clark & Peter Ulrich. I have participated in three Artomatics. I have had some success showing my art locally. I am a member of the Art League, Vienna Arts Society and Loudoun Sketch Club. I also am a member of Tibet House, NYC and the International Campaign for Tibet in DC. I am currently painting a series about Tibet, where I went on a pilgrimage in 2013.
I continue to paint, not really knowing why I do it, except that I like it. I look forward to a long life of making art. Peace & Tashi Delek!
