Best of Show Quilter Susan Lapham Headlines VAS’s May 8th meeting

Susan Lapham was our featured artist at the VAS membership meeting on Thursday, May 8th. Our audience was captivated by her deep dive into the colorful vibrant world of textile art!

Susan is an abstract textile artist who dances between the design wall and sewing machine. She is inspired by her unusual childhood crossing five continents, speaking three languages, and managing four brothers.

Her vibrant, geometric, and exquisitely colored work has been exhibited widely in the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, The Dairy Barn, Schweinfurth Museum, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Her awards include Merit Award Winner at ArtFields, Best of Show at the Torpedo Factory, and Best Use of Color. She received degrees in cartography and statistics and worked as a mapmaker and researcher until her retirement in 2023. She spends her creative time in her studio in Vienna, Virginia.

The Vienna Arts Society’s membership meetings are free of charge and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the VAS Art Center in the Windover Professional Building at 243 Church St NW, Suite 100LL in Vienna, VA.
