VAS member Zbig Karaszewski is presenting a fascinating workshop on assemblage, or 3D collage, on May 20, from 10-1:00, at the VAS Art Center at 243 Church St NW, Suite 100LL in the Windover Professional Building in Vienna The cost of the workshop is $60.
You’ll learn all about the art of assemblage and influential artists in the field, and you’ll have a chance to create your own work of 3D collage. Some materials, substrates and tools will be provided to create your assemblages, but feel free to bring your own. Zbig encourages you to check out your junk drawer for ‘found objects’ to include in your collage. Any odds and ends will do, from interesting shapes, trinkets and stamps to images, photos, postcards, old letters, beads, fabric and mementos*. For the structure of your collage, bring bits and pieces (1/4-inch to 3-inch) to assemble in a wooden 11×11 box, for example, or on a 22-inch by 18-inch substrate, cardboard.
If you have any of these tools, please bring them to the workshop: a glue gum, X-Acto knife, utility knife, cutting mat, sharp scissors, serrated knife, brushes, metal ruler, hammer, small nails, pencils, white glue, hot-melt glue gun, glue sticks, gel medium, acrylic paints, and gesso.
Zbigniew (Zbig) Karaszewski, is former marine engineer. In his assemblages, he enjoys expressing his passion for the sea and the beauty of a ship’s geometry.
