Grace Rooney-Artist of the Year

Grace Rooney

I have loved art from the time I was a child. I graduated from the Pittsburgh Art Institute and went on to work as an artist for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City Missouri. After moving to Cleveland Ohio, I became the program director for American Greeting Cards. Moving to Virginia my positions included the U.S. Postal Service as a graphic artist and National Education Association illustrating filmstrips for teaching deaf children in Washington D.C. Many volunteer hours were spent teaching art in the elementary school through the GRACE art program and at an Alternative School for at risk teens.

My affiliations include former member of the Art League School in Alexandria, The Vienna Arts Society in Vienna, Virginia, and a juried member of the Potomac Valley Watercolorists. I am on the Executive Board for both societies, past president of the Vienna Arts Society and present president of the Advisory Board for VAS. I have studied under many talented and accomplished instructors at the Art League School, and attended classes and workshops in the surrounding area. I have expanded my studies through participation in many travel trips within the United States and abroad with Art Study Groups.

Although I have used different mediums, my love is watercolor. I don’t have a specific style or subject, I am inspired by my surroundings. My art is exhibited at the Vienna Arts Center and it’s participating venues in addition to many other shows, some juried and judged in the surrounding area. My paintings have received awards in many of those shows.
