•”Dancing on Thin Ice” a Painting on Yupo Workshop with Jeff Gorrell

will be held at the VAS Art Center on March 24, 10 – 4:00 pm.  The fee will be $100.00 for members.

The workshop will focus on gestural techniques for painting water, skies and textured objects (e.g., rocks, bark, and dead trees) both wet-on-dry and wet-in-wet, as well as some techniques for more fine control. I will show how all of those techniques can be applied successfully to landscapes and abstracts. In my demonstrations, I will use large brushes, ranging from #16 rounds and 1-inch and 2-inch flats to 4” and 8” flat brushes, so I recommend that participants bring their biggest brushes, even brushes typically used for oils and acrylics. There will be plenty of time for practice and painting your own paintings.

Call the Art Center to register.

• “The Power of Pastel”, a landscape workshop with Bryan Jernigan Saturday, June 9

will be held at
Vienna Art Society, 115 Pleasant Street, NW, Vienna, VA, June 9 from 10 am to 4 pm

National award-winning pastelist, Bryan Jernigan, paints impressionistic landscapes. Watch him demonstrate from beginning to end, while he shares with you the secrets of the pastel medium. From choosing papers, to learning about the basics of value, composition and application, a new world of artistic possibilities will open up for you. Jernigan shows you how to produce loosely expressive, traditional, works on a small scale, but also how to incorporate realistic structures (barns, houses, etc) within the landscape. For beginners and experienced pastelists alike, you’ll learn what tools to use, get guidance on aerial perspective, add just enough information to suggest landscapes, explore framing options, and discover application tips and tricks to take your art to the next level. If you are looking for a balance between control and expressiveness, color confidence and greater mastery, this is the workshop for you.

Register with Bryan Jernigan directly, Bryan Jernigan,

$150 due by June 2.   All major credit cards accepted.
